Google Bard is now actually available in 180 countries around the world without a waiting list. Except in the EU and therefore not in Germany. The reason for this is the very restrictive legislation here. If you ask further, Bard itself admits this:
I am not available in the EU yet because Google is still working to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR is a complex set of rules that govern how companies can collect, use, and store personal data. Google is committed to complying with the GDPR, and we are working hard to make sure that Bard meets all of the requirements. We expect to have Bard available in the EU in the near future. In the meantime, you can learn more about Bard and how it works on our website.
This further reinforces the fear that Europe is cutting itself off from innovative developments through its petty data protection legislation.
Nevertheless, as my example shows, it is not impossible to use Bard from EU countries. All you need is a VPN connection, which can then be run via the USA or UK, for example. The easiest – and free – way to do this is to install the Opera browser, which has its own very easy-to-use VPN service installed:
- Download, install and start Opera.
- Activate VPN in the Opera settings (Settings – VPN or call up opera://settings/vpnWithDisclaimer in Opera).
- Then click on VPN in the address bar so that it is highlighted.
- Select America as the region by clicking on VPN again.
- Call bard.google.com
