Why the Unit Is Combined
Information and intervention belong together: who sees the status on the display, wants to react immediately at the same place. The CDU bundles both: it shows the system status and gives the controls for intervention – compact and ergonomic.
CDU appears in this meaning constantly in system documentation. Note that in aviation CDU also stands for the Control Display Unit of the flight management system – the device in which the pilot programs the route.
