G-Force Training in the Centrifuge
The Centrifuge-based Flight Environment Trainer simulates the acceleration forces of flight: the centrifuge spins the pilot in a gondola and generates the G-forces that occur in tight turns and catapult launches. The CFET prepares pilots for the physical stress of combat flight.
Why G-Forces Must Be Trained
At high G-forces, the blood sinks from the brain into the body: vision narrows, consciousness fades. Pilots learn to counteract this with breathing techniques and muscle tension – in the centrifuge, under controlled conditions. Without this training, dogfights would end in unconsciousness.
CFET appears in this meaning mainly in training documentation of air forces. Together with simulators and flight training, it forms the preparation for the extreme demands of military aviation.
